A Beginning

The last year or so has been pretty thought provoking, to say the least. A lot has happened, politically and otherwise, and it looks like the pace of activity isn't going to let up. It's been very interesting for an opinionated person, but maybe not as fun for those around said person. Going forward I think I am going to jot down thoughts, observations, and (hopefully) humor about anything ranging from politics to bread baking. I don't necessarily expect anyone to read this per se; it is more an outlet for myself and, at least, a relief for those around me from having to listen to everything I have to say.

I don't think I am going to do some kind of introduction of myself. Because I am doing this mainly as a pseudo-public journal, my only absolute audience is me, and introducing myself to me just doesn't sit right. If anyone does end up reading this stuff, I am sure that over time who I am and what I am interested in will come out in good time.

With that said, one of my motivations to keep a journal is to keep track of my thoughts over time. A lot of my current experience in life is informed by a pretty intense traumatic event, both physically and psychologically, and writing will be helpful for exploring in the present and as a retrospective for the future. I am sure details of said event will end up being the subject of future posts (but not just yet). I am doing it in this pseudo-public way (pseudo because my goal is not to disseminate this to a broad audience) because it is a better motivator than keeping a private journal, which I have tried and failed, and because, as an exercise, it is more challenging and potentially more beneficial. 

Given that I am hoping to make this a semi-regular thing, not all posts will be the same length, they won't always be on similar topics, and they also won't be proofread and edited; I'll probably run a spell-check before clicking 'Publish'. I'll try not to make them stream-of-consciousness either.

To end off with a random thought instead of just a boring statement of intent:

What if the people we call 'climate deniers' really do believe in man-made climate change that can either be slowed or accelerated. They just also know that the coastal cities, which will be the first to end up underwater, is where all the liberals live?
